Protomartyr
Saint Stephen is one of the first seven deacons chosen by the Apostles to feed the Christian widows with the alms of the faithful. His very living faith led him to dispute with the Jews and blame their horrendous deicide; for which they, pushing him out of the city, stoned him to death.
With this death, the ungrateful Jerusalem was filling the cup of divine wrath, which soon poured out terribly on the deicidal city, devastated by Titus, the Roman Emperor.
Let us learn from Saint Stephen the strength of faith and love for our enemies.
