Confessor

He is one of the great kings who forged the Spanish Homeland, expanding its borders. Led by God as by the hand, he conquered, among others, the two great cities of Cordoba and Seville, and when he died, he pointed out to Spain the way to Africa. He was very happy in all his undertakings, which the Saint attributed to the special protection of the Mother of God.
He prayed, fasted, and punished his body like an anchorite. He died in a holy manner in 1252, at the age of fifty-three.
