Catholic Feast.
Originally the Holy Cross was celebrated on this day, solemnizing its triumph over idolatry and the day the sacred relic was found. Later the feast of May 3 was introduced, in memory of how Saint Helen found it; and today’s feast was dedicated to celebrating the recovery of the Holy Cross by Emperor Heraclius, victor of Cosroas, king of Persia, in the year 629.
Christ, God and true Man, raised on the cross, drew all things to himself, reconciling heaven with earth and conquering the empire of humanity.
V/. Our Lord Jesuschrist.
R/. Pray for us.
