Catholic Feast
According to ancient tradition, the Virgin as a child was presented to the Lord in the temple of Jerusalem, and she stayed to live in the company of other maidens, next to the house of the Lord. Suppressed this feast by Saint Pius V, the studies of the Spanish theologian Francisco Torres, SJ, succeeded in having it reestablished by Sixtus V. Many institutes of religious renew their vows on this day, thus fulfilling the prophecy of the psalmist: “Virgins will be presented after her.”
