Confessor

The blessed Fray Pedro of Alcántara, who, as Saint Therese writes, seemed to be made of tree roots, was born in Alcántara (Extremadura). At the age of sixteen he entered the Order of Minors, which he reformed, restoring the very narrow poverty and rigorous penance. He had an admirable grace of contemplation and discretion of spirits. He helped Saint Therese with his advice, and after he died he appeared to him and said: “Oh happy penance, which has deserved me such great glory!”

V/. St. Peter of Alcántara.
R/. Pray for us.
