Apostle and Evangelist
He was a publican, that is, a collector of tributes: an always hateful job, especially among the Jews, enslaved by the imperial treasury of Rome. He was the first to write the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Hebrew language for Christians from Judaism. That is why he takes special care to note in the life of Christ the fulfillment of the prophecies. He has transmitted many of the Savior’s discourses to us. He preached in Palestine and in Ethiopia, where, since he confirmed in the vow of virginity Princess Iphigenia, he was martyred.
