Confessor
From a noble Catalan family, he entered the Order of Preachers, of which he became General. He was a distinguished minister of the Sacrament of Penance and an excellent canonist, to whom the Church owes the Decretals, published in 1234, a canonical collection that governed the Church until 1918. He collaborated effectively in the founding of the Order of Our Lady of the Merced. On one occasion, laying his cape on the waves of the Mediterranean, he sailed in six hours from Mallorca to Barcelona. He died at the age of ninety-nine, in the year 1275.
