Abbot

He was canon of Tarazona; Cistercian religious layman and Abad of Fitero. Calatrava abandoned by the Templars before the push of the Moorish, Raymond, who at the time was in Toledo, offered himself to the King of Castile to reconquer that square; and at the head of a lucid army, he reconquered it for Christ and for the country. As a permanent defense of the border, he founded the Military Order of Calatrava, half monks, half soldiers, approved in 1164. The Saint had died the previous year.
