Confessor.
(1581-1660).
France was torn by forty years of religious wars, the people were depleted, without religious instruction and without bread, so our merciful God raised up the evangelist of the poor and incomparable apostle of charity, Saint Vincent de Paul, who himself, and by his two religious families, widely remedied the ills afflicting souls and bodies.
He founded the Congregation of the Mission (Padres Paúles), to evangelize the peoples and sanctify the priests, and the Company of the Daughters of Charity, to assist all kinds of needy. He is the heavenly Patron of all the works of charity that are somehow derived through him.
