Virgin and Martyr

“I love Christ and, loving him, I am chaste; touching him, I am pure; receiving him, I am a virgin. “

Thus said Ines, a thirteen-year-old girl, betrothed to Christ and rejecting the love of the suitor. Condemned for her loyalty to be slaughtered, the executioner hesitates to unleash her blow; but she encourages him by saying: “Hurt without fear, that the wife would offend the Husband if she made him wait longer.”

V/. Saint Agnes
R/. Pray for us.
